Why do we need a VPN?

To be honest everyone needs a Vpn. Mostly to access the website restricted by your ISP or your government or atleast to keep your internet traffic secure.
So everyone deserves a VPN. But when it comes to VPN provider two basic problem arises: 
              1.pricing
              2.is the vpn trustworthy?
The biggest question that arises is that do the VPN is really a "no-log VPN" or it indeed maintain a log of internet traffic which nullifies the whole concept of VPN.
So let's come to the point that what maybe the solution of this :
1. Do we really have depends the vpn         providers.          
                              OR
2. Can we create our own VPN?
